Smile

We know that when you are unhappy or angry and someone tells you to "shake it off," "lighten up," or "smile," it is not usually met with appreciation. But the truth is, if you would follow that advice, you would feel better. Put your body into a posture that looks like feeling good and your brain will get the message. Stand up straight, smile, walk briskly. Sing. These actions are incompatible with anxiety and so will dispel the mood. Try it once. It works the other way, too. If you are avoiding your sadness or suppressing your anger, put your body in the posture of that neglected emotion, and the feelings will come along. Physical, mental, emotional, spiritual -- all are connected and interactive. Any change in one will affect all.
